04 Oct TRANSPORTATION IN DUBAI
TAXI:
Cabs are a good way to visit Dubai if you are only staying a few days. The most economical solution is the metro, but it takes longer and does not serve the beaches.
Cabs are available 24 hours a day every day. It is better to take a cab in high season (and if you stay less than two weeks) because there are less parking spaces available and the cost of the cab is much cheaper than in France. We recommend the Careem application for cabs.
All cabs in Dubai are equipped with an odometer that indicates the amount in AED (United Arab Emirates Dirham).
For example (indicative price):
Airport – Downtown : 60 aed
Airport – Dubai Marina / Palm Jumeirah / JBR: 120 aed
Dubai Marina – Dubai Mall: 70 aed
Palm Jumeirah – Dubai Marina: 20 aed
Dubai Marina – Atlantis: 40 aed
Burj Khalifa – Atlantis: 80 aed
CAR RENTAL :
Renting a city car can be more cost-effective. Especially if you stay in Dubai for several days
To rent a car in Dubai, you must be at least 21 years old. Most of the agencies in Dubai require a credit card in order to make a car rental.
A deposit is required as a guarantee.
If you want to treat yourself during your stay, it will be possible to rent luxury cars from 25 years old.
METRO:
The metro is the economical solution but it does not serve the beaches. It is a straight line that crosses the city of Dubai. The average metro ride costs AED 8 (depending on the number of stops).
With two lines, the green and the red, they run underground and above ground throughout the city. The metro has three classes – Gold (luxury), Silver (common) and a women and children class.
The metro operates from 05:00 – 00:00 Monday to Thursday, 05:00 – 01:00 Friday, 05:00 – 00:00 Saturday, 08:00 -00:00 Sunday.
TRAMWAY :
With 11 station stops, this tramway offers a convenient way to get from one place to another. The Dubai Tramway loops around Dubai Marina and connects it to the Dubai Metro system and the Palm Monorail.
The loop takes about 40 minutes from one end to the other. Streetcars run approximately every 6 to 8 minutes. It runs from 6:30 am to 1:00 am every day. The only difference is on Fridays when the streetcar opens at 9am (it closes at 1am as usual).
The Dubai Tramway has a fixed fare of AED 3 per trip, regardless of the distance traveled. Passengers must obtain a Nol Card to ride the streetcar, you can buy one at any metro station. A Nol card is used by passengers to check in and out of the streetcar by scanning the card at the platform doors.
Children under 5 years old travel free of charge, while those over 5 years old will need a Nol card. Students can benefit from a 50% discount if they apply for a blue Nol Card.
This Nol card will also be used to use the bus network. Buses in Dubai are operational from 4am to 1am. They run at regular intervals (every 10 minutes on average in the most talked about areas and up to every 30 minutes for other areas).
